About the Department Established in 1920, the Riverdale Park Police Department is a professional full-service community oriented Police Department consisting of 20 sworn officers and a support staff of 10 civilians. The Riverdale Park Police Department has a 24 hour "patrol division" and also includes an outstanding criminal investigative division, bike patrol unit and a community policing division. Evans since 1995, the Riverdale Park Police Department has experienced the positive influence of a strong leader and has become on of the most efficient municipal departments in Maryland. During the past six years, Riverdale Park police have paved the way for other municipal department by being the first municipal department to implement new ideas ad technologies. In 1999 Riverdale Park was the first municipality to implement the automated red-light camera technology. 2001 the communications division was renovated in keeping with changing technology. In 2002, Riverdale Park signed the first multi-jurisdictional mutual aid agreement, enabling surrounding jurisdictions to combine police resources and better serve the community.
