by Stephen Curry

As one of the new Community Police Officers, I am 100% dedicated to making a crime-free future for the Town of Riverdale Park. This year, I am challenging the entire community to get involved in building safer neighborhoods for the 21st century. My office is open to anyone who has any crime prevention questions or community problems. Stop in to visit me at the Police Satellite Office, located at Jefferson Hall Apartments, 5400 Kenilworth Terrace, Riverdale Park, Maryland or call 301-927-4343.

Neighborhood Watch is just one of many programs I will be focusing on in the year 2000. The Riverdale Park Neighborhood Watch is designed to include all concerned residents who wish to take a stand against crime. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at Town Hall. All residents are invited to come and learn about crime prevention methods. As a result of these meetings, residents will become more aware of suspicious activities, therefore lowering the chances of their becoming victims of crime.

The Neighborhood Watch Program also conducts community patrols. These patrols consist of volunteers who either walk or drive through assigned neighborhoods and alert police to suspicious activities. Police officers, including me, will teach each volunteer what to look for and the means of notification if trouble is spotted.

Throughout the year, the Riverdale Park Police Department, in conjunction with the community, will be taking part in several crime prevention events. With the help of the community, we can accomplish our goals, and make the Town of Riverdale Park a safer place to live. Thank you in advance for your support, and I hope to see you at our next meeting. Next neighborhood watch meeting: Tuesday, Feb. 15, 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
